It was an idea we talked about for a long time: a round-robin tournament of master and expert strength chess players from southern Colorado. What made it different this time is that someone actually went ahead and made it happen! That someone is Ken Schwartz, revitalizer of the Pueblo Chess Club and active chess promoter. Ken found the players, the place, and the time - can't ask for much more than that.
We were hoping that NM Bruce Monson of Colorado Springs would compete, but that was not possible. Robert Fordon of Montrose, however, did favor us with one of his rare visits to Front Range chess, and he clearly out classed the field and walked away with the big prize. Lee Simmons, former CSCC President, returned to tournament play after a long absence and played some very sharp chess, especially against me (sigh!). Ron Deike of Canon City came up to join the Colorado Springs tournament regulars, and, lo, we had ourselves a good tournament, with hard fought games all around.
